Coach Mike Bencal

Mike Bencal joined the Renegades Coaching staff in the 2015 season but this isn’t his first time wearing Black and Grey! Mike played for the program in the 1988 and 1989 seasons. He then moved on to play for Niles North High School from 1989 to 1993. Mike made the varsity squad his Freshman year. His sophomore year he was named to the all-conference team and made the second team all-area. His junior year he lead the Chicagoland area in home runs and RBI’s. He was named to the all-state second team and all-area first team as well as the all-conference team.

His senior year he was 9-2 on the mound and hit .529. He was named to the all-state, all-area and all-conference first teams.  He played in the first all-suburban and all-city baseball game at US Cellular Field where he went 3-for-3 and scored the winning run and was subsequently named MVP of the game.

Mike then moved on to play ball for the Norwood Blues American Legion Baseball team out of Chicago. After that he played one season in the Wood Bat Cape Cod League. Next he played at Rend Lake Junior College.

Most recently, he has been involved as a youth baseball coach for in the Portage Park Area. Mike is now the head coach of the 2016 Renegades 11U Team.

Mike and his son are the first father-son combination to have played for the Renegades!
