What the Season Meant to Me…
In the Words of the Kids

Renegades Baseball is a well-respected organization. When I put on the Renegades colors I know I am representing not only my team, and my coaches, but also future a past alumni who have built up the Renegade name. Renegades taught me so much more than just baseball; it gave me skills and teachings that I will use in high school and beyond. What I have learned from coach Ugel, coach Bartman, and coach Boock will serve me well as I take on the problems and obstacles that are thrown my way through out life. I am proud to be a part of Renegades baseball and I will remain to where the Black and Gray with much pride and respect.

The season this year has meant a lot to me. I can’t even express how fun this summer has been. Everyone knows that I had come late to the team because of school. At first, I really thought this season was going to be very long and become a very hard time because nobody knew who I was. But as the season went on, I realized that I was wrong. In my first day, I knew everyone. Not only was this season very fun and exciting, it became an experience that I thought I would never have.

The season to me was learning experience. I learned about baseball and what class means. The things I learned about baseball give me a definite edge over the other kids in high school. I learned about being a good sportsman and about being a class athlete. Win or lose you hold your head up high. The experience with the Renegades will help me go on to high school, be a leader and be a better ball player. My experience with the Renegades is one I’ll never forget, the road trips, the activities, and the baseball. I enjoyed the two years I played with the Renegades.

I thought we had a great season. On the field we were great, we were at least 20 games over .500. Some games, like on road trips or triple-headers, we were really tired, and most of the time we still found a way to win the game. I also think everybody got better, and improved at their positions. Off the field we also were great. Everybody got along with each other; we had fun together, and didn't get into too much trouble. I know that I didn't know anyone on the team in the beginning, and during the end of the season we were best of friends. Even though we didn't win state, or we might not have had the best record of any Renegade Team, we still had a great season.

I used this season as a chance to improve my game and to prepare for high school so I could be as good as possible going into tryouts. I also used this season as one last chance to see some of the friends I made while playing in this program for 2 years. I became really good friends with some and okay friends with others but on the whole I think everyone had a great time hanging out together and playing some good baseball.

This past season of Renegades provided me with great deal of learning. We were not only taught to become better ballplayers, but to also be responsible young men. The most helpful thing that I learned was responsibility. Coach Ugel taught us to be responsible young men by pushing us to be honest, strive for excellence, and teaching us that more often than not, we will suffer the consequences of our own actions. Coach also taught us how to be great players by coming in early to practice to work on hitting or fielding drills. I also had a lot of fun with my teammates over the past four months, especially on the “East Coast Swing.” We had the chance to room together, have fun together, and just hang out together. I thought that this season was a great success, and I wouldn’t be half as good of a person or a player without the past two years of Renegades. I would like to thank Coach Ugel and Coach Siegel for making Renegades possible.

This season prepared me for the challenges of playing baseball in high school. Now, having experience with the Renegades, I will be a step ahead of kids trying out for the high school team. The season also brought out change in me: physical change and mental change. It changed me mentally by giving me knowledge of the game, responsibility, confidence, and dedication to the game of baseball. You often don't get this from an ordinary baseball club. It changed me physically by helping me with skills, fundamentals, and aggressiveness on the field. I thank the Renegades for this.

When I first started Renegades, I didn't know what to expect. I didn't know if it would be too much for me or not. But know that its over, I'm glad I did it. This was the first summer I had, where I played good competitive baseball. I learned more about the game than I had ever known. I made a bunch of new friends. I also felt that we were one of the best teams out there. We could have done a lot better then what our record was. But all in all, I loved every minute of it. I wish I would have joined the team earlier and had a chance to play on Renegades a lot longer. So to answer the question, 'What the season meant to me', it meant a lot, because it took my game to a new level, and it helped me become a much better baseball player.

The 14-year-old Renegades season meant a lot to me. The thing that meant the most to me was that I learned so much more about baseball. Becoming a better baseball player means a whole lot to me because 1 want to play the best I can. The coaches taught me a lot of things that I never knew before. All the coaches tried their best to help us in anyway possible, whether it was hitting, pitching or fielding. I gained knowledge in my pitching techniques, my batting stance, teamwork and dedication. Personally, the Renegades made this possible for me. I not only learned baseball techniques but I made great friends. I thought this season made me a much better ball player than I ever was before. If I never played on the Renegades I would have never of been this good. I loved going on the road trips with my teammates and seeing all the new things.

The season was a learning process for me. I was taught what to do in certain situations during a game and how to anticipate plays that may happen in a game. I was taught good sportsmanship and what I had to do to keep my emotions under control during a game.

I learned how to be a good teammate. I learned this by talking to the other players about baseball and the things that happened during the games and by hanging out with them and having fun on the road trips we took. I will always carry the memories I had with the Renegades with me.

This season meant a lot to me in many ways. This season, to me, meant a lot about leadership, discipline, the ability to improve, and the ability to change your bad things that aren't working well for you.

Leadership is one of the key elements to a team. It meant a lot to me this year. Leadership has a major impact on the success of the team. Every team needs it, and every team wants it. This year I had to step up and display leadership to my teammates and my coaches. To do this you have to do it right so your teammates look at you not only as a fellow teammate, but as a leader also. I hope I did a good job. Another thing that meant a lot to me this season was discipline. You have to know how to discipline yourself so you can play your role on the team correctly. You also have to discipline yourself to do what is right and stay away from building up bad habits. If I didn't discipline myself, not only would I be letting myself down, but my teammates and coaches also.

This season meant a lot to me about improvement. What I mean by that is that it's a big jump from the thirteen to the fourteen-year-old level. A lot of improvement is needed in between. The competition level rises; therefore you have to improve in order to play at the same level as other teams. Improvement means a lot and I hope I keep improving in the future.

This season meant a lot about being able to change. Like I said before it is a big jump from being a thirteen year old to being a fourteen year old, you have to be open minded and able to change and adapt to new things. By being open minded, you have to take criticism in a positive way and make adjustments off of it. Changing and listening is critical to having success in the games. There are a lot of new things that you need to know when your fourteen so you have to listen, learn, and change your bad habits to good.

What did the season mean to me? This season meant so much for me. It meant fun, friendship, success, teamwork, and what I think is the most important new given maturity. This has now taken the place for me as my favorite and most productive year of baseball.

This season mean me many different things. I learned how to be more discipline, to be a smarter base runner, to hustle at all times, the different kinds of bunt situations, and a whole lot more. You always have to work as a team, if a player gets down you have to pick that person’s head up. Before a game you should be mentally and physically prepared, ready to play baseball. In practice you should work your hardest to become a better ball player. You should practice perfect because perfect practice makes perfect. Also, as a team you cannot have a cocky attitude, as we did partly through the season. We then started to pick things up and play much better baseball because we weren’t cocky anymore and played great baseball.

This season was a great learning experience for me. Throughout the season I learned how to persevere through the tough times, and how to carry myself through the good times. Over the year, I also learned the different fundamentals of baseball, and how to utilize them into my game.

Overall, my experience as a Renegade was a great one. All of the different places, people, and experiences will be something that I will never forget. This program has helped me to learn the fundamentals of baseball, and also to learn the fundamentals of life.

The year for me was supposed to be a good baseball experience. I was expecting to get a lot of work done, but I couldn’t because I was hurt the whole season. It was fun and I liked each and every one of my teammates, I was a little bit disappointed though because I think we should have made it a lot farther. This season showed me that I haw a lot to work on. I thought it was a good experience and I hope that my baseball years ahead will be similar.

This season was a good and fun season. I got to be with some cool guys and play baseball all summer. Even though we didn't do to well, I had fun learning and just hanging out with my friends. I really did learn a lot from these last past two years. I really enjoyed the road trips. They were always fun. I loved playing in all the tournaments even if we didn't win. But when we didn't win I usually got upset and or angry like anyone else on the team. I wish I could stay playing with all of the same boys because I really had a lot of fun playing games and goofing off on some spare time. I'm probably going to look back on these two years, maybe not now, but in a couple of years from now, and say that I had a great time and that I wish I could come back and play a couple more games just for the fun of it. That's really what the season meant to me and that's about it.

The season was a great learning experience. It taught me not only how to be a skilled baseball player but also how to be a disciplined individual. I felt fortunate enough to meet other players with certain skills, which helped our team succeed. Out of this learning process, some long and lasting friendships were made.

“This season was a time when 14 people came together and united as a team. Our experiences this summer off the field will stay with me for many years. This team has meant a lot to me.”

“This season meant: This is what you work for. Your year (in the 13-year-old program) is adapting to the different play. The14 year is putting everything you learned into action. This season was a failure and a success to me -- a failure in not winning state, a success in other well-played games. This season was playing to win.”

“This season meant a lot to me, both on and off the field. My relationship with the players and coaches was great. Whether it was on the field or in a hotel, our team would always stick together and never give up. I wish every one of my sports teams could be like this. It was the best two years of my life.”

“I enjoyed all of the things we did as a team, on and off the field: the movies, the games, the wins, and the losses. Everything was fun. I never really felt pressured; I just did what I could. I loved playing for the Renegades because of all the experiences with friends and with baseball.”

“This season alone, I learned more about baseball than all of my prior years added together. It was a very enjoyable year.”

“The season meant a great deal to me because of all the fun I had both on and off the field. The road trips were awesome, and I made a ton of friends this past year that I hope to have for years. Renegades has been an experience that has meant to a lot to me because I learned a lot and had a great time at the same time.”

“This season helped me improve my game tremendously. I learned things that I never knew would help me. I also met a lot of new people. Some of them I became friends with, and others wanted to keep with their old group. Overall, this year has helped me with baseball, along with being able to meet new people.”

“This season was incredible. I learned baseball as never before. Off the field was so much fun, especially on road trips. We were good, so that also helped out with my liking of the season. Overall, it was awesome!!”

“This season has been a great learning experience for me. I feel that both my baseball skills and people skills grew. If I could go back and do it again, I would.”

“This season has meant a lot of things to me, but I know that this would be my last year with a great team and with some great coaching, and I know that there will be nothing like this. Some of my great times were with the coaches and traveling. This was one of the best years that I have ever had, and I am sure going to miss it.”

“This season meant many things to me. First, it was full of many fun experiences, even though we didn’t win state. I kind of went into this season thinking that next year would be more fun, but I don’t think that could be possible. All of the players brought an aura wherever we went, and I think that helped our team make this year very fun and successful.”

“This year marked the end of a two-year journey, a journey filled with learning, personal growth, success and failure. I had many great experiences as a Renegade. I traveled around the United States playing baseball and having fun with my teammates. I learned a great deal about baseball and became a better player. I learned a lot about myself and grew as a person. I learned to trust my instincts and believe in myself. It was a season where I worked to make necessary adjustments. I learned to trust and believe in myself and see that mistakes are part of the game, part of life and a key to learning. This season meant showing character and leading with character. This season meant doing the right things because I wanted to, not because anyone else wanted me to. I think most of all; this season meant having fun and winning baseball games. Learning to appreciate the experience and realizing how special it has been, even the disappointment of losing the state tournament cannot overshadow all of the great moments along the way.”

“The season meant a lot to me. The knowledge of the game that I acquired from the coaches, as well as the players, I will keep with me forever. The friendships that I not only got this year, but last year as well will always be with me. The season showed me and taught me about great baseball and the challenges that are ahead of me.”

“This season was not only the most fun but also the most competitive season for me ever. The end of the season was the best part for me. It was fun being on a team that could beat any other team on a good day. The road trips will never be forgotten. This was the best season ever!!”

“This season was a great experience for me. We played a lot of tough competition. I learned how to handle certain situations, how to step up in the clutch. Off the field I had so much fun on road trips or just hanging out. I had a great summer with baseball and my friends.”

This year ment a lot to me because it will help me for high school and anything else in my future, Because we played and faced some pretty good teams this year and we went out of state and saw some really good hitters and pitchers. This year also I think helped us grow up as individuals we learned not to be rude and how to communicate with others that we have never seen before.

This season for me was overall a good experience. I learned a lot about baseball and how to play the game better. I met many new people with a lot of different qualities. Everyone on the team had his own personalities and things that made you like them. Their families were also very supportive and fun to be with.

The season meant a lot to me, it gave me a chance to meet new interesting people and play baseball and learn new things about it. Coach always told us that many people leave here and say it was the best summer ever, now I know what he was talking about. Although we may not have won any tournaments or anything it was still great. I became closer with my teammates and learned how to have fun while doing the right things in baseball. Although the season came to an end shorter then usual it was the best baseball season I have ever played in.

This year as a 14-year-old Renegade, I took many things from the season. I made many friends and learned things about baseball, both mentally and physically. This season meant mostly preparation for both baseball in high school and responsibility and respect towards others, both I believe I will have more experience against those I will by competing against and those who will be my colleagues in high school. This year learning the mental parts of the game will most definitely get me focused in tight situations more than those others who may not have the knowledge or experience I have gotten from playing with the Renegades. This year Coach Ugel, Bartman, and Boock all taught me lessons on respect and responsibility, which at the time may have cost me playing time, but will help me to be a better person in the future.

This season meant a lot for me. Playing for the Renegades for two years previous, I thought I had all my fun, but this year we had some of the best times of my life I'll never forget. I met some of the greatest friends I could ever ask for. This season meant more than just playing baseball, it also taught me that no matter how bad things are going you still have to give it your all on or off the field. I was fortunate to be able to learn from Coach Ugel for two years. It was the most packed summer of playing baseball and meeting some of my new best friends.

This season has been a special one. We got off to a bumpy start using wooden bats and had a losing record, but we never lost hope that we could turn it around. As soon as we switched to metal bats we started to win a very high percentage of our games. We slaughtered the bad teams, beat the good teams, and competed with the great teams. After every game it seemed we got better and our confidence soared. No matter how many runs we were down, we never gave up. All sixteen players knew we only needed a hit or two to start a rally and turn around the game. For me, this season was a learning experience. I had the opportunity to pitch a lot, and also to play the outfield. I had a great season at the plate and pitching. My season was great in general, as was many of my teammates' seasons. I will always remember the season the Renegades had when I was fourteen years old.

This season meant a lot to me. First of all, I learned so much about the game of baseball and how to become a better person off the field, too. This organization gave me an opportunity to meet all kinds of people. Also, it showed a new level of baseball. The friendships and the relationships I made with my coaches and my teammates will stay with me forever.

The season to me was a lot of fun, a learning experience, but above all, it geared me towards high school. After our season, I feel that I am more ready for high school, both on and off the field.

This past season with the Renegades was a great experience. Not only did I learn a lot, but I also met some new people, and had a great time playing on a competitive baseball team. This season was also a great experience because I had to overcome a couple of fallbacks. After I had to sit out the beginning of the season, I had a hard time getting my swing back. I had to overcome the annoyance of another bad game, and keep on getting better. Towards the end of the season I finally began to hit, and proved to myself that I can be a productive hitter. This season also was a great experience because when I came back from my injury, I started to play a totally new position. I had to adapt to the new position, and actually found that I was a pretty solid first basemen. But, I also had the opportunity to play other positions; such as, second base and short stop. And lastly I loved playing with my teammates. I became friends with everyone on the team, and loved playing with them.

This Renegades season meant a lot to me because I learned new things about baseball, as a player and as an observer. It's not just what I learned; it's also about how to improve my skills as a player and learning how to improve them on my own. This season also helped me mature as a young adult and how to respect other people, coaches, and everyone around the game. I learned a lot about being strong mentally and how to take control when needed. One thing that really stuck out about this team was that we never gave up. Even though our record wasn't phenomenal, we never gave up. The first tournament that we played our team really came through and picked each other up. That was a big turning point for us.

Over the course of the season, I have learned many things. I have not only learned much more about the game of baseball, but I have also learned how to get through tough times. Towards the end of the season I was very tired and worn out, but with the help of my teammates and my coaches, I was able to keep going. At the beginning of the season, we had a slow start and I learned that if we just gave up then, we would not have been able to end the season with so many wins and so few loses. I have had so much fun this summer as well. From the tournaments to the bus trip, I was able to get to know my teammates very well and build strong friendships. This season was also very important to me because it prepared me for high school. During a summer camp at Loyola Academy, a teammate and I felt that we had an edge on some others because of the Renegades coaching and philosophies. Without this past season, I feel that I would not have learned how to be such a successful or class athlete.

This season meant many things to me but what I enjoyed the most was going out on the field, playing baseball and having fun. I also enjoyed the trips, I liked going to different parts of the country and representing this organization whether it was being a class act or just playing the best I could.

This season meant a lot to me. Throughout the whole season I became a better ballplayer and learned how to become a better person. With new players on our team I learned how to try to include everyone, and how to make new friends. Also, during this past baseball season coach always talked about the mental part of baseball. I remembered what he said and always tried to encourage my teammates and learned to laugh with them to try to loosen them up before they went on the field. The season before this past one I was kind of quiet and didn't interact with my teammates a lot. Going on our many tournaments and the bus trip changed all of that. Hanging out with my teammates so much made us kind of like a family, and it made me realize how easy it is to be a vocal part of a team. This year I talked more with everyone and was able to fit in better. This past season truly taught me these great lessons and I will always remember I learned them playing Renegades baseball.

This season was the best baseball experience I have ever had. The teams we played, the coaching we got, the pitching we faced, and the class and respect that we learned were just the best. On the other teams that I have been on, the sportsmanship, and player quality/expectations wasn't as great as it was on this team. I learned so much from all three coaches, from hitting to outfield play, to base running. I loved being on this team; I just learned so much that I would have never from any other team I could have been on. Thank you!

The fourteen year old Renegades season was one of the greatest experiences that I've ever had. Before becoming a Renegade, I thought I knew the game of baseball pretty well. I didn't know how wrong I was. Within the first couple months of my Renegades career, I probably had attained more baseball knowledge than I ever had. With two years of experience, I know for a fact that I'm much more prepared for high school baseball than others. Also, I thought we had a pretty good year. In the first part of the season, when we were using wood bats, I wasn't sure how our team would end up. But once the Quad Cities tournament started, our team started playing much better, and I don't think we lost more than ten games the rest of the year. I owe this incredible season to my coaches and teammates, who I know gave up so much of their time for this incredible season.

When I first heard about the Renegades I was not sure what to expect. However, after two years as a Renegade I learned exactly what it meant. In that time I learned more about baseball, sportsmanship, commitment, character, and discipline than I ever thought possible. I learned that coming early, working hard and staying late really does pay off. I became aware that it is not just the commitment from the players that make a team successful, but also the unparalleled passion of the coaches who wanted to make us not just better baseball players but better people. In addition, I realized that we all needed the support of our families to make the experience even more meaningful. It was a privilege to be a Renegade and I will always be proud to have been part of such a class organization.

To me the season was a chance to become a better baseball player, a better teammate, meet new people, and most importantly become a better person.

This season was actually kind of frustrating for me. It was just my bat wasn't coming along as I wished. As hard as I tired to fix the problem, I just couldn't get it right. This is why this is such a great program because when the coaches saw my error with my swing; they went right at it to help me. It was really frustrating for me and the coaches, but they didn't give up on me. They would show me some tricks on how to do it right. When I got it right I felt so happy because all of my hard work paid off, and I feel I owe them so much for not giving up on me and for the remainder of the season I was hitting the way I thought I would in the beginning of the season and it is such a good feeling to work at something for so long and finally succeed it. I think that's how the season went this year.

This season was one of the best ever. I learned more about baseball than any year before. I learned more about situations and how to respond to them. I learned a lot for all the aspects of the game and I was able to replace bad habits with good ones with the outstanding coaching given to me. I also met some great friends that will be with me forever. It was the greatest summer ever.

The season meant a lot to me. It taught me so much about baseball and working with a new team. Since it was my first year with the Renegades, I did not know many players at first, but as the season progressed I got to know everyone. Coach Ugel was a very good coach. He taught me many good things about baseball. This year I gained so much confidence in pitching, fielding, bating, and many other things including complicated signs and plays.

We went on a great bus trip. I saw many great things, including historic places, and did fun activities, as well as playing games. We saw the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Niagara Falls, Fenway Park, Yankee Stadium, went whale watching, West Point, New York, and the many great things in New York. As the summer went by we were getting better as a team. It showed at our last tournament were we won both championships (14 and 16 year old). That was one of the best times where we really pulled together as a team. Even though some of the other teams were older, bigger, and stronger they did not have a chance against us. We were great at that last tournament. I had a great time as a Renegade. I will always remember the fun I had and the good things I learned.

This season was a great season for me. It taught me a lot that I need to know about baseball. I learned a lot from Coach Ugel, Coach Book, and Coach Condon. They all taught me the fundamentals of baseball and more. I also got a chance to meet new people who I later became friends with. I know that I've only been with this organization for one year but I learned and had more experiences than I could have possibly had on a different team. Not only the coaches, but the whole team taught me many things about baseball and having fun while still playing hard. This team also gave me a chance to build up my baseball attributes and be ready for any future teams that I play on. This season I learned how to set my own goals and to be mentally and physically ready for every game. This season meant a lot to me and I will never forget it.

The season for me felt like a bag of mixed emotions. First, I was glad that the season allowed me to grow not only physically but mentally. It showed me a whole new level of competition that I would not have experienced at some regular park league. I also made good bonds over the season with my friends and I learned how to trust my teammates through good times and bad.

Then there was the down side of the season that I considered a failure. We did not do as well as I liked to have, and some for of it I blame myself. We also did not make the playoffs and go to the state championship which I consider a huge disappointment to me for it was number 1 on my goals for the season and we came nowhere close. Finally we also lost too many games and didn't win enough tournaments which I also think is a disappointment.

What this season meant to me was opportunity, opportunity to get to know some new guys, to become a better ball player, to learn some new techniques and finally to have fun; I definitely got to know some new guy being this was my first year with the Renegades organization. I feel I became a better fielder and a better pitcher. I really learned many new things for my pitching my fielding and my hitting. I know for a fact that every one who was on this team had fun and if they didn't I don't know what they were doing. I would have to say I still had fun even when I was doing push ups every five minutes. Overall it was a great season and I enjoyed it a lot.

My 14 year old Renegades season meant so many things to me- two of which are learning to play the game right, but more importantly to play the game with class. The Renegades program stresses what it means to be a class athlete- not only on the field, but off of the field as well. The little things like saying "yes coach" and "no coach" or calling the umpire "sir" are both examples of things that are not necessarily taught in other programs, but they both show that the individual has a lot of class. All of this carried over to the baseball field by running on and off the field, and running through first base, even though the hitter was already out. The season also meant playing a ton of games. Double and triple-headers every Saturday and Sunday was also part of it, but it was extremely fun. This season taught me more about baseball than I could have ever hoped to learn. But what matters most are the life lessons I learned from Coach. Before I could learn to play like an adult, I had to learn how to be an adult. This season taught me how to be responsible, have class and many other lessons too numerous to name. This season taught me a lot. I realize that I will not be able to retain all that I learned, but even retaining some of it will make me a better person. I shall be forever changed by the most wonderful season of baseball I have ever enjoyed. And so, a big thank you to Coach Ugel.

My 14 year old season with the Renegades was a season I will never forget. The team alone was an extraordinary experience. I know the beginning of the season was not enjoyable because of the rough start we had. Fortunately, with the extra practices and the more time we put into becoming a better baseball team the results began to show towards the end of the season. This season meant the world to me. It puts me on a level of confidence that I could become a great baseball player. I was taught defense, offense, but most of all class and sportsmanship. Anyone can be a great baseball player but only few can have class. This was a season of great athletes by the 14 year old team of 2005-2006.

This season was a big learning experience for me. As a team and as individuals we went through some tough and frustrating times. We came from very different life styles and had to unite each life style to make us one. Not only was this a learning moral experience but a privilege to enhance my baseball skills. I also learned how to want to win, how to mentally prepare myself before or in a situation, and I couldn't have done it with out Coach Ugel. This season was a highlight in my baseball experience, a highlight I will never forget.

This season was actually kind of frustrating for me. It was just my bat wasn't coming along as I wished. As hard as I tired to fix the problem, I just couldn't get it right. This is why this is such a great program because when the coaches saw my error with my swing; they went right at it to help me. I think that's how the season went this year.

This season was the bomb. This season was awesome. This season represented everything that was good. I am constantly still recalling moments from this unforgettable season. There were so many pre-games, plays, at bats, and nights at the hotel that I can embrace for joy at any point in time in my life. How could just one summer be so memorable in my life? Well, this summer was filled, no, was overflowed with fantastic plays and fantastic times. Also, I could go on for days on how much new baseball techniques and habits that definitely improved me as a player. As well as the individual baseball skills, I learned how to be better person in a team environment. In this last summer, I developed into a better player; this last summer, I developed into a better person.
